THE CHEERLEADER

YOUR INTENTION:

You’re the parent who is always on. You want to share your love and excitement about golf and your golfer. You want to encourage them and always be there smiling with your thumbs up. You want to create excitement, energy, and confidence for your golfer.

OUTCOME

  • When your golfer is not playing well, your golfer may feel discouraged and frustrated when you continue to cheer them on.
  • When your golfer is playing well, your golfer may feel anxiety and pressure.
  • Your golfer will begin to tune you out and your efforts may have the opposite effect.

WHAT TO DO:

Only encourage them after something awesome. Give them the knowing look that you believe in them. Nod. You know them. They can do this and they don't need your cheering to accomplish it. Avoid being the overly optimistic cheerleader. Acknowledge the reality of their struggles and failures and that both of those experiences are okay.
